Microwave Engineering

Microwave System and Route Design / Site Selection

Network topology design and layout, based on desired points of communication and capacity needed at each point. Includes recommendation of frequency band, based on capacity and link distance.

Microwave Line-of-Sight Path Engineering

Construction of an "office-based" path profile - using one-second (30-meter) digitized terrain data, supplemented by examination of 7.5-minute USGS maps - and determination of antenna centerlines necessary to achieve line-of-sight.

Site and Path Field Surveys

Performance of a field survey of identified sites and paths, to supplement the above office-based path profile with "real-world" information on the sites and the natural and man-made obstructions along each path. Includes confirmation of site data (latitude, longitude, ground elevation and structure height), and photographing of sites and critical obstruction points along the path.

System Performance / Propagation Reliability Analysis

Analysis of path propagation reliability, based on frequency, path distance, and system fade margin - and considering the effects of obstruction, multipath, precipitation and atmospheric effects on signal performance. Includes analysis of any need for antenna space diversity to achieve desired system performance.

Microwave/Satellite RF Interference Analysis and Frequency Coordination

Analysis of potential interference to and from existing and previously-coordinated facilities sharing the same frequency band, identification of interference-free channels, distribution of the FCC-required "prior coordination notification" (PCN), resolution of any interference-related objections from other frequency coordinators, and delivery of the "Supplemental Showing" on frequency coordination necessary for FCC license applications.
